So late one night, unable to sleep, I happened upon this video. A bit skeptical but curious because of the feature of a "low light screen" I decided to push "play".
The soothing raindrops, the distant rumble of thunder, the dewy vines and gentle breeze I'm falling asleep just describing it. The darkened screen allows you to visually be drawn in as well as audibly. I've recommended this video to so many of my "mommy" friends for those late nights with the hungry newborn, the teething toddler, or a restless night waiting for your teen to return home safely. It plays for a straight 9 hours so even if you're awakened in the middle of the night it's still there playing its lullaby melody so you can softly drift off back to Lalaland.
I cant rave on enough about this one. Amazon offers a few others but this one is the best. It is recorded so well that you get the little tinkling noises and run-off sounds in the background almost like surround sound.
The intensity of the the rain, storms and thunder is so real at times I thought it was really coming from outside! The intensity of the rain is varied and the thunder isn't incessant or over-the-top--it is just exactly right. I grew up in the midwest where we had these kind of rain-thunder showers, and storms. Not like today where the rain comes down fast and in buckets causing more havoc then welcome.
This evokes such precious memories for me as I no longer live in the midwest. The closest I come to this now is in the desert during monsoon season which is pretty short. But the producers of this also nailed the effects of a monsoonal rain at times and its brilliant. I have fallen sound asleep to this many many times. It beats any OVC sleep aid.
I've listened to a few of these, this one is NOT on the top of my list. I hear the tinny drops, i'm ok with those, they are diff than the others i like, my main issue is when the thunder starts to happen, it, stops mid thunder roll, it goes dead quiet, then the rain starts again slowly, only to repeat, stop and start again. I love thunder, and this one gave me hope that it wasn't going to be super loud thunder, yet, it stopped completely.
Just what I was looking for. Nine hours long although I set the TV to turn off after about an hour, sometimes longer, but basically unlimited time even for the whole night if you choose it is simply very low light, peaceful sounds of rain.
I've been using it, sometimes alternating with other similar videos, for a couple of weeks now, and love it. Although there are others out there, for me the combo of the sounds, basically rain on leaves with some low thunder at times and the low light so the TV light doesn't keep me up is perfect for sending me off to a peaceful nights sleep.
I don't remember ever seeing the TV turn off, so it works for me! Also great for accompanying meditation. Highly recommended and included free with Prime. I usually play this on my iPhone which is on a table near my bed. As expected, the phone speakers did not do the excellent sound quality justice but are adequate enough to transmit the natural variation in volume, intensity and rate of the rain falling on leaves.
I had to get up once in the night and falling back to sleep was effortless and gentle. I especially like the occasional distant thunder. I start it about half an hour before bedtime as I get ready to retire. Beauty to my ears! I ended up sleeping 11 hours and awoke feeling more refreshed than I had in a long time.
I have been chronically ill and get up frequently due to bathroom emergencies. I also work stressful hours and had pretty much given up on the idea of having a good night's sleep on a regular basis. No longer!!!!! I recommend this to anyone looking to feel extra cozy with some solid ambience. It really helps and has a positive impact on the mind. I woke up in the middle of the night, smiling, knowing I was on a good journey that night.
I restarted the track and got the best night's sleep in probably 3 months. Waterfalls next for me! II like it but there are some issues so I will list some pros and cons: Pro: It's 8 hours! When the the rain is light it's very relaxing I love the sound of the thunder that always helps me sleep It's included with Prime Cons: The sound of the rain can be kind of tinny especially when the rain gets heavy - it mostly starts to sound like the static from old CRT tv's when it's not receiving a signal which is still white noise but could be better This is the main con I wish there was more thunder frequent - thunder makes me sleep like a baby for some reason Neutral: The image isn't very exciting but I'm not watching it anyway when trying to sleep.
Basically it is great but the way it kind of sounds like static during heavier rain when trying to sleep when wanting rain sounds to me is worth the 2 star loss but I do love the thunder I just wish there was more of it. Maybe people with a better speaker set-up might get a better quality sound but unfortunately I don't with stereo speakers.
All in all though I'll "watch" it again unless I find a better 8 hour storm video. My wife and I have enjoyed this Prime video for weeks and now it won't play on our Fire stick.
We'll get every commercial as it starts to load, then will drop us back at the start screen. We have tried other videos of the same grouping, nothing is working now.
